Abstract
211,654. Shaw, J. Jan. 9,1923. Guards. - In belt gearing for the beater shafts of scutchers, the licker-in shafts of carding - engines, or other machinery, the exposed side of the pulley rim is guarded by a complete circular disc, which is of considerably greater diameter than the pulley and is revolubly mounted thereon or on the shaft. Guard discs may be fitted to both sides of the pulley. As applied to a pulley 1 mounted at the end of a shaft 2, Fig. 1, a disc 3 is revolubly mounted by a central aperture on a flanged bush 4, which is itself revoluble in a stepped hole 5 in the shaft and is held therein by a screw 6. The edges 7, 8 of the disc may be beaded. Fig. 3 shows a modified form of guard 15 applicable to one or both sides of a pulley 18 situated at an intermediate part of its shaft 9. The or each disc 15 is revolubly mounted between the pulley rim and a flanged ring 14, which is freely supported on a dished member 10 secured to the pulley.
