Secondary frames.-In a vehicle adapted to run wholly on rails or having wheels running on rails and other wheels simultaneously running on the ground, a superstructure carrying the power plant is supported on driving wheels or on an endless tractor and is also pivoted to a sub. structure carried by ball or other joints on rail bogies. In the construction shown adapted to run on both rails and road, the superstructure a carrying the boiler and engines or other power unit is connected at its front end by transverse pivots p to the substructure c which is supported upon bogies d running on rails. The front end of the superstructure is supported by the leadin@ bogie while the rear part rests upon driving wheels e running upon the ground inside or outside the rails. The rear end of the superstructure is guided during vertical play by rollers v which engage the sides of a structure such as a tank q on the substructure c. The bogies support the substructure by means of ball and socket connections j so that both the superstructure and substructure may oscillate laterally together, such oscillations being by springs i.
