Abstract

Compound or articulated railway motor cars; steam road cars and wagons.-A steam-propelled vehicle having two or more running axles for use on rails or roads and adapted to be combined with a pascoach unit comprises in combination ; (a) a steam-engine unit mounted on the frame in a position which, viewed in plan, is betwo axles, the cylinders 20 being substantially vertical and the crank shaft beneath and arranged to drive the axles through chains 23, 25 without the interposition of a countershaft; (b) a steam boiler 17 overhanging at one end so that its bottom fittings are accessible and can be detached and lowered beyond the axle, and (c) a water tank 27, fuel reservoir, front end of a following coach, &c., adapted to weight the end opposite to that carrying the boiler. One end of the crank shaft may drive one axle and the other end the other axle. The crank shaft may be below the frame so that the chains are approximately horizontal. The engine may be accessible from underneath and can be detached and lowered between the axle. Fuel bunlers 18 and seats 19 at each side are provided.
