Abstract
156,983. Barrington, W. Dec. 15, 1919. Axle-trucks and bogies. - In a self-propelled railway vehicle with pivoted front and rear bogies, the motive power is supplied by an internal-combustion engine supported on a wheel-carrying frame situated about midway of the length of the vehicle. The driven wheels of the central frame are capable of either lateral movement relativelv to the rails or the central wheel frame is capable of having lateral movement relatively to the carriage. 2, 2 are the front and rear pivoted bogies and 3, 3 driving wheels with wide flat treads connected to the internal-combustion engine. The wheels 3, 3, do not move relatively to the vehicle frame, so that in traversing a curve the treads of the wheels slide across the rails. In a modification, the engine is supported on a wheel-carrying frame, the wheels of which are flanged. The frame is adapted to have a. transverse motion relatively to the vehicle by supporting the wheel-carrying frame on rollers which run on a transverse beam fixed to the. vehicle framing.
