Abstract

Elevated-railway engines. - A cable rail elevated tramway &c. having trolly wagons of the pannier type has a motor trolly driven by an internal-combustion or other engine and con. nected by driving gearing to the trolly wagons of the train so that the wheels of all the wagons can be driven and braked. The motor trolly c, Fig. 1, has a pair of grooved driving wheels a driven by gearing from the engine e. Each wagon trolly t has a pair of grooved supporting wheels a', the axle of each wheel carrying a pair of sprocket wheels m, n, as shown in plan in Fig. 6. A sprocket wheel on the rear wheel of the motor trolly is geared by a chain o' to the leading wheel of the first wagon trolly and similar chains connect together the axles of each trolly and the proximate wheels of adjacent trollies thus forming a connexion transmitting the driving effort and also the braking effort, when the motor trolly is braked, to all the wagon trolly wheels. Rigid coupling-bars r connect adjacent trollies to maintain the trollies at 'the required distance apart.
