Rail and road, alternative sets of wheels for. -In a locomotive adapted to act also as a portable engine, road roller, or traction engine, and in which flanged wheel mounted on axles l and road rollers or wheels mounted on axles a, bare used for support and propulsion alternatively, driving-drums, winch pulleys, or the like are driven from the flanged wheels when the locomotive is stationary and supported by the rollers, which are adjustable vertically relatively to the frame. The wheels or rollers on the axle b are pivoted centrally for steering, and those on the axle a are driven by gearing interposed between their axle and the axles of the flanged wheels. The flanged wheels serve as fly-wheels when the road wheels or rollers are in use.
