Abstract

653,462. Railway vehicle undercarriages. HUTCHINSON, E. June 11, 1948, No. 15741. [Class 103(vi)] The axle bearing blocks 4 of a railway vehicle are slidably mounted for longitudinal movement relatively to the vehicle frame B, against resilient means 6 for constraining the axles 5 to remain in a normal transverse position relatively to the rails and are.provided on their upper faces with rollers or balls 7 spaced apart to ensure free rolling. The bearing blocks 4 are carried in frames 2 mounted, by springs 3, on the underframe B. The axle 5 is divided centrally (Fig. 1, not shown), to allow relative rotation of the wheels the portions being maintained in alignment by flanges cooperating with a complementary grooved sleeve. It is stated that the arrangement reduces the hammering of the wheel flanges against the rails induced by side winds.
