Abstract

210,212. Brown, A. C. Nov. 20, 1922. Magnetic instruments.-The pole piece c in a telephone receiver is ground to a level with the diaphragm seating, so that the diaphragm originally rests upon it: the diaphragm being then raised slightly by a screw s, which is preferably formed of or tipped with hard elastic material such as ivorv, agate, glass or metal. The screw s may pass through a lug l in the case, which is split so as to form a spring grip to retain the screw s in position; or it may pass through the pole piece c. The screw s is formed with a shoulder to prevent the diaphragm being raised so far as to damage it. The permanent magnet m is preferably a bar magnet with its similarly-polarized ends turned up, as shown in Fig. 2, and ground flush with the pole piece and diaphragm seating. Or the magnet may be formed of a straight piece with separate pole pieces at each end ground flush in the same way. According to the Provisional Specification, the screw s may be tipped with wood or ebonite.
