Abstract

Holders.-In gas-holders in which the seal between a. disc closure member and the wall of the gas holder is made by continuously flowing liquid such as gas tar, the sealing liquid is conveyed from the base of the gas-holder to collecting vessels b by means of pipes c. The pipes c extend almost to the bottom of the vessels b and are fitted with tapping orifices e through which water &c. may be drawn off. A motor-driven pump controlled by a float f raises the sealing liquid from each collector vessel b to a distributing tank at the top of the gas-holder. In frosty weather, gas jets supplied from the gas-holder are kept burning in heating tubes g passing through the collector vessels. Adjustable overflow weirs, shown in Fig. 4, are arranged in notchees i in the pipes c in order to enable the flow of sealing liquid to the vessels b to be equalized. The weir consists of a segmental flap k provided with an operating handle n and indicating pointer m.
