Abstract
221,610. Fall, F. P., and Ashmore, Benson, Pease, & Co., Ltd. July 16, 1923. Holders.-In order to allow entrance to the inlet or outlet pipes of a gas-holder or alternately to seal the pipes when entrance to the holder is necessary, a vertically movable hood f surrounds a tubular member c depending from the top of a casing a which is fixed in the top b of the gas-holder. When the gas-holder top is in its lowest position the hood f may be lowered to surround the inlet or outlet pipe k by means of screws e which pass through stuffing-boxes in the top of casing a and engage lugs p on the hood. The lugs p engage with guide rails g on the casing a. In its lowest position the bottom of the hood f is below the water-level of the gasholder tank and the top h of the hood and the bottom j of the member e are sealed by water supplied through a pipe m. Entrance to the pipe k can be had after removing a lid d<1> from a man-hole d in the top of the casing a, the gas retained in the hood and tubular member being first allowed to escape through a test-cock n.
