Sashes balanced by springs.-Sliding windows are held stationary in any desired position by means of a spring 12 which is connected to a lever 1 bearing at one end against the bottom rail of the window, the spring 12 being adapted to vary the action of a counterbalancing spring 3 attached to the end of the lever opposite to the window-engaging roller 8. The compensating spring 12 is connected to the lever at a point between the pivot 5 and the roller 8. The lever 1 when Z-shaped may be pivotally mounted at the junction 5 of two arms b, c and connected, preferably through the medium of a link 13, with the spring 12 at the other junction 14 of two arms a, c. A link 10 may be inserted between the spring 3 and the lever 1.
