Abstract
209,026. Restany, J. L. L. Dec. 22, 1922, [Convention date]. Casings; cooling.-Cellular cooling bodies aro embedded or formed in each of the cheeks f, g, which enclose the rotor a and form the diffusion passage b of a centrifugal pump. Each cooling body has a member i with semicircular grooves j, j<1> &c. which fits into the cheek, and the grooves are closed by a thin plate h of good conducting material. Cooling water enters by the orifice l and leaves by the orifice l<1> after circulating through the grooves. In a modification the grooves are machined in the cheeks f, g and the plates h are secured directly to the cheeks. The plate h may be welded and screwed to the cheeks, and the sides m<1>, m<2> of the cooling passages may be integral with the plate h instead of with the cheeks. In the modification shown in Fig. 5,. the passages j, j<1> are closed by pieces p, p<1> &c. secured by soldering, drifting or the like. The passages may be arranged radially or spirally. In another modification the cooling parts are embedded in the cheeks g, g<1>, Fig. 8, and a hollow blade q, the interior of which is composed of cells traversed by the cooling water, mounted between the cheeks to divide the pumped fluid into two streams. Additional blades may be used if desired and they may be subdivided and inserted between existing guide bladings. In another modification annular passages t, t' &c. in the cheeks of the diffuser passage have small apertures which are made adjustable by needle valves u, u<1> &c. Cold water enters the passages v, v<1> and is sprayed through the adjustable apertures to cool the gas in the diffuser.
