Abstract

Portable pressure reservcirs; fusible sprinkler heads.-In a portable fireextinguisher of the type comprising a container 1 for a liquid such as carbon tetrachloride, under pressure, adapted to be discharged automatically or by hand, the hand and automatic discharge devices are arranged in the same removable spray-head 4, the lower part 13 of which is so shaped at 17 as to deflect the jet of liquid issuing from the automatic discharge outlet 6 into a direction at right-angles to the outlet. In hand operation, the liquid passes, under the control of a screw 9, through passages 8, 10 into an horizontal nozzle at right-angles to a socket 7. The automatic discharge is controlled bv levers 19, 21 which fall away when released by the fusion of a ring 22. The fusion may be accelerated by the burning of a celluloid ring 24. In filling the container 1, the correct pressure is indicated by the degree of compression of air in a tube floating vertically in the liquid and open at its lower end.
