Abstract
444,259. Fire-extinguishing by foam; spray-producers. ROSENBAUER, L., ROSENBAUER, K., HEISERER, L., FISCHER, R., WEINMEISTER, D., and HEISERER, F., (trading as FEUERWEHRGERATE-U. SPRITZENFABRIC K. ROSENBAUER), 11, Spittelwiese, Linz-on- Danube, Austria. Sept. 21, 1934, Nos. 27218 and 27219. Convention dates, Oct. 13, 1933 and May 9, 1934. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 23, 1935.] [Class 47 (ii)] [See also Group XXIX] A device for the alternative projection of foam or of water jets or sprays of various forms comprises a water nozzle 38, Fig. 14, connected to a supply hose and a conical foam nozzle 41 adapted readily to be attached to or removed from the nozzle 38 by means of a ring 39. The nozzle 38 comprises a body 32 on which the nozzle sleeve 38 is adjustable, and a valve consisting of the conical member 42 on a fixed, hollow, stem 36 and the part 44 which is adjustable along the stem 36 by means of a rack 35 and pinion 34. With the parts as shown, a foaming liquid is supplied through the stem 36 by pressure or suction and is discharged, together with a water spray from the nozzle 38, into the foam nozzle 41, where it forms foam with air drawn in at the open rear end 45 of the nozzle. If the foam nozzle 41 is removed and a valve in the passage 37 closed, water alone can be projected as a solid jet, as a spray, or as a wide cone or screen by appropriate adjustments of the sleeve 38 and of the part 44 relatively to the conical member 42. With the sleeve 38 fully extended, a solid jet is obtained, quantitative control of which is effected by the part 44, which acts as a closing valve when it abuts against the periphery 43 of the nozzle outlet. For a solid jet, the part 44 should be raised to a position of continuity with the part 42. If the part 44 is withdrawn to produce a groove 46 as shown, and the sleeve 38 is retracted until the edge 43 is opposite to the groove, the water is discharged as a flat cone, due to the sharpness of the edge 43 and the shallow slope of the top 18 of the sleeve. The foam nozzle 41 may be pivoted to the nozzle 38 so that it can be swung aside to free the water jet. In a modification, the foam nozzle is removably attached to an ordinary hose nozzle delivering a solid jet, and is provided with a deflector for breaking up the jet. In another form, Fig. 1, the valve member 3, 4 is unitary and is axially adjustable in the nozzle tube 1 and the foam nozzle 12 is supported by a ring 10. In another modification, Fig. 3, the part 20 of the valve is fixed, and the stem 22 of the conical member 23 is adjustable by means of an arm 24. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a construction in which the part 3 is screw-threaded on the stem of the member 4. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
