Abstract

207,246. Stenman, P. L. Aug. 21, 1922. Chain strainers for binding timber, logs &c. A member 3 is provided with a pivoted hook 4, a pivoted portion 5 of which is adapted to be locked by a catch 6, and with a stepped portion adapted to slide in and engage corresponding steps in a recess 7 in a second member 8 provided with a fixed hook 9. In modifications (not shown), in which the hooks may be pivoted or rigid, spring or rigid catches on one member engage teeth on a second member that slides through a bridge piece forming part of the first member, or a wedge-shaped member carried by one member may be jammed against a flat surface of the other member that slides through the bridge piece. Other arrangements (not shown) used in conjunction with any of these appliances and particularly adapted for taking up the initial slack in the chain before the actual straining is performed comprise a toothed or corrugated member that forms a guide for a correspondingly toothed or corrugated member one of these members being secured to one of the hooks of the straining device and the other member being secured to the end of the chain.
