205,124. Dawson, Sir A. T., Buckham, Sir G. T., and Larsson, C. A. April 18,. 1922. Machine guns. - A recoiling-barrel gun of the Vickers type is provided with a drum magazine, preferably of the Lewis type, the cartridges being deposited from the drum into a feedslide which carries them into position for engagement with the extractor of the lock. In the form shown in plan in Fig. 2, the cartridge drum B is mounted on a spigot a<2> on the front hinged cover A<2>. The recoil plate of the gun engages one arm d<3> of a bell-crank lever the other arm d' of which moves a transverse slide E<1> in the feedbox E. A third and higher arm d<2> of the bellcrank lever reciprocates a slide D which through a pin d rocks the arm C carrying the pawl C<1> for feeding the drum. The feed movement of the drum, which occurs during run-out, brings a cartridge X beneath a spring-controlled guide A<4>, Fig. 4, carried by a fixed bracket A<5>. During the recoil, the feed-slide E<1> moves to the right and a deflector spring E<2> on the slide forces the cartridge down a fixed guide e<3> on the feed-box and into the slide, the cartridge being moved into line with the extractor of the lock when the slide returns.
