Cleaning, fluid-pressure processes for. - An apparatus for removing soot from the smokeboxes and fire tubes of marine and like boilers comprises steam or compressed air pipes horizontally fixed in a definite position in the smoke-box or in the respective sections thereof, one set of pipes being located near the bottom oi the smoke box and provided with nozzles to disturb the soot therein and in the adjacent fire tubes and another set of pipes having upwardly directed nozzles to create an up-draught to carry off the soot. Provision may be made for swing- ing the apparatus outwardly as a whole or in separate sections so as to leave the boiler tubes easily accessible. A pipe D with control valve D' supplies steam to a pipe A traversing the centre sections B and wing sections C of the smoke box and having upwardly directed nozzles A'. By means of a swivel coupling E and a suitable bearing within the smoke box, the apparatus can be rotated as a whole. Branch pipes F connect the pipe A to nozzle pipes G and H, having nozzles G<2>, H<2> to disturb the soot and if desirable updraught nozzles G<1>, H'. The nozzles G<2>, H<2> may .register with the bottom rows of fire tubes. At each end of the lower pipes G, H rearward extensions are provided with nozzles G<3>, H<3> directed towards the back of the smoke box. Clamps K are provided to secure the blowers to the smoke box in the operative position. By opening the smoke box doors and undoing the clamps K the blowers may be swung outwardly as a whole or in sections, additional swivel joints being provided in the latter case.
