Abstract
290,131. Fairweather, H. G. C., (Whittemore, Hulbert, Whittemore, & Belknap). Dec. 13, 1927. Cleaning, fluid-pressure processes for.-In a boiler having baffles F', F and G for directing the hot gases against the tubes D, accumulations of ash on the baffle G are removed by means of a blower tube 3 which may be telescopic and has nozzles 5 which direct the ash to the bottom whence it is withdrawn by a suction apparatus. This consists in the form shown in Fig. 5, of a blower head 12 discharging steam rearwardly through a nozzle 24 thus creating suction at openings 29a which are adjustable in size by arranging within the pipe 29 an inner pipe having spirally-cut openings which register to varying degrees with the openings 29a. Steam is admitted through a valve 18 operated through a projection 16 by a cam 15 carried by a gear wheel rotated from a sheave wheel 6. In another form shown in Fig. 7, suction is set up by an injector 66, and the openings 60, 60a &c., through which ash enters, are controlled by rotating an apertured inner tube.
