Machine rests.-An adjustable folding rear support for a machine gun comprises a base member in the form of two hollow sheaths 1, 2, Fig. 1, and an upstanding screwed strut 10, 12 of adjustable length which can be housed within the sheaths, as shown in Fig. 4, by a turning movement about two axes at right-angles and a sliding movement. The screwed sleeve 12, which engages a nut on the gun stock, is mounted upon the screwed spindle 10 which is hinged at 9 to a block 5, This block has grooves 7, 6, engaging a fixed pin 8, to permit rotary and sliding movements of the block in the sheath 2. In the operative position, Fig. 1, flanges 15 on the sheaths are held' together by hooks 11 on the screw 10. To house the parts, the screw, together with the block 5, is rotated in the sheath 2 to disengage the hooks 11 and permit the sheath 1 to be removed. The parts then occupy the position shown in plan in Fig. 7. The screw 10 is then turned about the hinge 9 into line with the block 5 and pushed' into the sheath 2, the sheath 1 being then replaced over the projecting part of the screwed slews 12. The support may be housed in a recess in the gun stock.
