Abstract

Hydrostatic apparatus.-In hydrostatic weighing apparatus a number of subsidiary rams receiving the pressures from a number of points act directly on a main ram so that the sum total of the different pressures set up in the main ram cylinder may be ascertained on an indicating device. In a form adapted for weighing fourwheeled vehicles a separate platform is provided for each wheel. The pressures on the platforms are transmitted by flexible diaphragms and by a suitable fluid to hydraulic cylinders E fitted with rams F. The rams act upon a single platten G forming part of a ram H working in a cylinder J. A pressure gauge K which may be calibrated in weights is connected to the cylinder J, or instead of a pressure gauge a small hydraulic cylinder having a ram loaded with loose weights may be employed. To meet leakage and expansion, a pump L is provided in a fluid-supply tank M. The fluid may be forced through a pipe N to the cylinder J and thence through pipes O to the inlet pipes of the cylinders E. When the initial pressure required in the system is obtained the ram H rises and closes the upper ends of the pipes A. The gauge should then indicate zero. The pressure may be reduced by a valve P. A safety valve Q may be provided.
