Abstract
564,899. Reciprocating pumps. ZWICKY, J. F. Feb. 27, 1943, No. 3236. [Class 102 (i)] Apparatus for testing vessels under hydraulic pressure comprises a casting 1 with an inlet 7 for connection to a low-pressure source of test liquid, an outlet 9 for connection to a vessel to be tested, a cylinder 2 for the plunger 3 of a single-acting reciprocating force pump, an inwardly - opening spring - loaded non - return valve 8 between the inlet 7 and the cylinder 2, an outwardly-opening spring-loaded non-return valve 11 between the cylinder 2 and the outlet 9, and a manually-operated screw-down or other unbiassed valve 13 to control a passage 12 which directly connects the inlet 7 and the outlet 9. The latter may be connected by a branch 17 to a pressure gauge 18, whilst the inlet 7 may be connected to the low-pressure supply by a three-way cock 14 with a drain connection 16. The pump may be carried,by a tank mounted on wheels or rollers, or a supply tank may be mounted to slide vertically from a position above to a position below the level of the pump, means being provided to look it in the elevated position.
