Abstract

370,334. Testing strength of pipes. SCHLOEMANN AKT. - GES., 13, Steinstrasse, Dusseldorf, Germany. Sept. 23, 1931, No. 26545. Convention date, Oct. 11, 1930. [Class 106 (ii).] A transmitting piston is introduced between the pressure water plant and the testing members so as to separate the pure pressure water from the crude filling water and thus economize the former. The pipe 3 to be tested is clamped between a piston 2 and a traverse 4 which is connected bv rods 5 to the cylinder 1. The pressure system comprises a tank 6, pump 7 and accumulator 8. The transmitting piston 17 is located with one end in a cylinder 16 and the other end in a cylinder 14. In use, pressure liquid, water and glycerine is introduced through the pipe 19 to the cylinder 1 and the pipe 3 clamped in position for testing. The valve 11 is now operated to allow crude water from the tank 10 to pass through the non-return valve 12 and through the piston 2 into the pipe 3. Crude water also passes through the non-return valve 13 into the cylinder 14. The valve system 15 is now operated to admit pressure water to the piston 17 whereupon the loaded valve 18 is opened and the valve 12 closed, the pipe 3 being placed under test pressure. After the test the pure pressure water is returned to the tank 6 under the sinking weight of the piston 17, while release of the pipe 3 is accomplished by allowing the pressure water from the cylinder 1 to return through the pipe 19 by manipulating the valve 9.
