Abstract
An impregnated mica insulating foil for insulating electrical machines comprises a mica paper (17) secured to an open weave fabric (11) e.g. of glass fibres by means of an epoxy resin adhesive and impregnated with an impregnating resin e.g. a hardener-free epoxy resin, the epoxy resin adhesive coating the fabric completely except in the regions between warp and weft threads which remain open to leave at least 50% of the surface of the mica paper adjacent the fabric unmoistened by the adhesive and the epoxy resin being non-adhesive at room temperature and soluble in the impregnating resin. The invention also includes a method of producing the insulating foil wherein the fabric 1 is passed through a bath 2 of the adhesive solution, air blasted at 3 to free the interstices of adhesive, dried at 4 and calendered by rollers 5, 6 to the mica paper strip 7 impregnated with resin by roller 8. <IMAGE>
