Abstract

A building structure has at least one exterior wall formed from at least two layers separated by an air gap, the inner layer (15) having integral ribs (16) projecting towards the outer layer (19) or layers, and reinforcing bars (12) embedded in the ribs and having portions extending into the outer layer to tie that layer to the ribs, the inner and preferably at least one outer layer being formed of cementitious material. Preferably the reinforcing bars (12) are formed in a zig-zag shape. A concrete ring beam (7) is formed on a foundation slab (3) and starter bars extending up from the beam facilitate the fixing of the bars (12) and mesh reinforcement (14) for the inner layer. Plasterboard may be used as permanent shuttering for the inner layer, and insulating material (18) for the outer layer. A lean-to roof may be formed using upstanding ribs (25) from a concrete layer (20). Alternatively, a pitched roof may be formed in a similar fashion to the walls, with tile battens fixed to the outer layers. <IMAGE>
