Abstract

Process for spraying liquid in which the charged particles produced by electrostatic atomisation are at least partially discharged after formation by ionic discharge induced from a sharp earthed electrode 15. The droplets are charged by being emitted from capillary tubes 9 connected to a source of HT. The sharp electrodes 15 are carried by an earthed metal ring 13 carried by an insulating dish 12 which is movable axially to adjust the field. Alternatively, Figs. 3-6 (not shown) the field may be adjusted by cup-shaped nuts (23) threaded onto sharp electrodes (21), or by a ring (34) slidable on the sharp electrodes (36). <IMAGE>
