Abstract

201,742. Horsfall & Bickham, Ltd., and Shaw, T. R. July 14, 1922. Wire cards, grinding.-A shaft a, Fig. 1, on which is secured a grinding-roller for operating upon the cylinders &c. of carding-engines, has a reciprocation imparted to it by a sleeve 'i having a cam-groove j. The sleeve i is constrained between a member b and a collar k, which are secured to the shaft a, and is slowly rotated through an epicyclic train of gears f, e, d, h, the gear f being stationary and the gear h having a different number of teeth integral with the sleeve. A shoe o engaging the groove j is secured to a casing g, which encloses the mechanism so as to ensure effective lubrication. In a modification, a sleeve p, Fig. 3, carrying the shoe o is secured to the shaft a, and the planetary pinions d, e are replaced by a pinion t mounted on a fixed spindle u. In a further modification the pinion t is replaced by an internally toothed gear surrounding the gears f, h and arranged eccentrically with relation to the shaft a.
