Abstract
The operating mechanism of a disc brake comprises three hydraulic actuating piston and cylinders 2,4,2 and 3,2,3 for each brake pad which piston and cylinder are housed in a fixed saddle. The two outer hydraulic piston and cylinders (3) of one pad (19) are each combined with a mechanical brake-applying mechanism, such as a spring reservoir (6), the mechanical load being applied through a mechanism (5, 11, 16, 15, 17) which ensures also automatic pad wear adjustment in use. The centre piston and cylinder (4) of the opposite pad (19) incorporates a similar mechanism for effecting automatic wear adjustment, and this piston and cylinder (4) serves as a support for brake disc S when spring reservoirs (6) are operated by interruption of fluid supply through connection (21) to apply brake for parking. <IMAGE>
