Abstract

Stationary - vessel washing-apparatus.-In a sand-washing machine of the type described in the parent Specification, the counter-flowing washing water is still further utilized before it is allowed to escape from the apparatus. The water flows over the curved rear edge N of the lowest of the finishing chambers D' into a supplementary chamber M<1> formed by a plate M behind the baffle-plate C<2 >in the main separator C. From this chamber M' the water issues through ports P and joins the ascending jet of water from the nozzle C' and further agitates the sand descending from the vibrating screen B. The water normally flows over the forward edge N<1> of the main separator C into a passage P', but in the event of more water entering the chamber M<1> than can escape through the ports P, the surplus water flows back through a relief passage R between the rear edge N of the finishing chamber D<1> and the upper edge of the palte M into the passage P<1> and thence into the tank D beneath.
