Abstract

200,479. Westinghouse Brake & Saxby Signal Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Westing- house, H. H.). July 8, 1922, [Convention date]. Force-feed lubricating.-In a rotary pump of the type wherein a rotor 7 carries outwardly-sliding vanes 9, an outer casing 13 acts as a reservoir for lubricating oil which is forced under the action of the pumped fluid past a regulating valve 15 communicating with (1) a number of passages 17 leading to the bearing surface of the cylinder 2 housing the rotor 7, and (2) an annular groove 18 communicating by ducts 19 with the bearing face of a guide-ring 4. The discharge passage 20 of the pump leads to a nozzle 21 having slots 23 and oil outlet ports 24, together with a baffle 25 to assist in separating the oil, some of which is caught in pockets 27, 28 and led to the shaft bearings 5. In the event of an excessive amount of oil collecting in the cylinder 2, the pressure causes relief valves to open and oil to escape to the reservoir 13.
