Abstract

200,231. Black, R. April 13, 1922. Guards, controlling.- In machines having relatively-adjustable coacting rollers, a guard pivorted to the machine frame is automatically raised and lowered by movements of the top roller. When material is fed from both sides of the machine, the guard is duplicated. As applied to a dough-rolling machine, pairs of arms 7 are pivoted to brackets 8 secured to the top plate e of the frame at each end of the rollers a, b and carry at their ends guard rollers 6. Additional rollers or bars 6a may be provided. The, arms 7 rest on the shaft a<1> of the upper roller, the bearing-blocks c<1> of which are, adjustable by screws d actuated by bevel gearing f, f<1> from a shaft g. The guard arms may be provided with removable bearing-brasses where they contact with the shaft a'. When the roller a rises, the arms 7 spread out and lift the rollers 6 clear of the feed boards i. In order to prevent the arms from being raised independently of the roller a, one of them at each end of the machine carries a notched pivoted piece 9 adapted to engage a stud 10 on the other or on the frame when one guard only is employed. The notches are ratchet-shaped so that they ride over the studs when the arms 7 are falling, cutaway portions 11 of the arms permitting the shaft a<1> to lift the catches 9 and free the guards. Rolling-machines.-Dough-scrapers 12, pressed into contact with the roller a by weights or springs 14 and arms 13, may be pivoted on the guard arms 7.
