220,453. Belhaven, Ltd., and Mellor, R. R. Aug. 4, 1923. Guards, controlling. - In guards for biscuit or dough breaks and like machines having rollers, of the type comprising a sloping grill or panel covering the upper roller and extending towards the feeding-table, the grill &c. A' is carried by arms A<3>, at least one of which is pivoted either, as at A<4>, to the raising and lowering block A<5> or to the spindle B<4> of the upper roller A<6>, and is operatively connected to a fixed part of the machine. Such connection may comprise a pin B' carried on a bracket B<2> and engaging a cam slot B in an extension of the arm A<3>, the slot being so shaped as to constrain the guard to rise with the roller A<6> until clear of the danger zone and thereafter, by turning on its pivots, to rise more quickly. As shown, the guard may be duplicated and may be provided with. a roller A and wing plates B<3>.
