Abstract

Disazo dyes are prepared by coupling the tetrazo compound from 4 : 41-diaminodiphenyl-3 : 31-dicarboxylic acid on the one hand with an aryl-2-naphthylamine, and on the other with an azo dye component which contains a sulphonic or carboxylic group, or two hydroxy or two amino groups, or one hydroxy and one amino group or a hydroxy group in conjunction with the CH2.CO group of the acetoaceticanilide or of the pyrazolones. The products dye cotton in red to blue shades which by after-treatment with metallic salts, for example copper or vanadium salts, become deeper and fast to light and washing. In an example, the tetrazo compound is coupled with phenyl-2-naphthylamine and 1-amino-8-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid. The dyeing properties are also given of the corresponding dyestuffs in which the 1 : 8 : 4-acid is replaced by methyl-2-naphthylamine-7-sulphonic acid, 1-naphthol-5-sulphonic acid, resorcin, or 1-o-oxyphenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone.
