Scouring and polishing.-In the annular space 4 between a rotating cylinder (not shown) and the stationary casing 6 of a grain pearling or scouring machine there are inserted adjustable vanes 3 arranged in the path of the grain &c., so as to regulate the duration of the pearling operations. The vanes may also be arranged in apparatus wherein the axis of the cylinder is horizontal.
