Switches, quick-action; covers. - In quickaction switches of the dead-centre type, the movable contacts 24 - - 27 are secured to a carrier 42, loose on the main shaft 36 and actuated by a member 37 secured to the shaft and engaging through teeth an arm 50 pivoted at 52. The arm carries a pin 53 in a slot 51, and between the pin and a part 41 of the carrier 42 is stretched a spring 57, which keeps the pin in engagement with a guide 54 attached to the lid 20. The part 41 of the carrier works in a slot in a guide 47, also attached to the lid, and by engaging a projection 58 on the switch wall, prevents the lid being lifted when the switch is on. To operate, the shaft 36 and member 37 are rotated, whereupon a lug 39 engages the part 41 and rotates it. The arm 50 also is rotated to tension the spring 57, which, after the initial movement, rapidly completes the action. The contact carrier 42 has a depending part 43 to which is secured an insulating plate 28 on which the movable contacts are mounted. As shown in Fig. 3, the movable contacts are rotated in a clockwise direction to close the circuit, the dotted lines 29, 30 being inter-connecting leads.
