Abstract

Switches, quick-action.-In tumbler switches having both a quick make and a quick break action produced by spring - controlled toggle mechanism which crosses the line of centres, one of the members of the toggle engaging with an abutment to give a positive initial movement, the tumbler lever is separate from the toggle and connected to it by a link, and the abutment is made integral with or forms part of the base-plate of the switch. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the contact arm 1 is attached to a double-armed carrier 2 pivoted at 3 and slotted. A plate 13 is mounted between the arms of the carrier by means of projections which fit into the slot, and the plate has a hole through which projects the pin 8 of the toggle 8, 7. The knee of the toggle is connected to the inner end of the tumbler by a link 9. In the closed position a bent-up end 15 of the plate 13 engages with an integral projection 16 from the switch base or with the side of a recessed base and, as the toggle is straightened to open the circuit, the angular movement of the pin 8 causes a corresponding movement of the plate which bears upon the abutment and produces an initial positive movement.
