Relates to plug-and-socket switches of the type in which the switch cannot be closed except when the plug is inserted, the switch being actuated by a sliding member coupled to a lever, the said lever co-operating with a spring-controlled detent, which is actuated by a projection on the plug member. The connexion between the sliding member and the switch proper consists of a racking member and link. Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the plug c has, in addition to the current-carrying terminals c. a third or actuating projection h which may be earthed. Before the plug is inserted the lever j is locked in the position shown by the detent i, the lever being pivoted low in the base a and pivotally attached to the sliding member b by the projection k. When the plug is inserted, the detent i is depressed and the lever may be moved into the longitudinal slit of projection h. Closing the switch, i.e. moving the lever j into the slit in projection h causes the shoulder m to engage the small transverse pin c, preventing the withdrawal of the plug. The sliding member b is operated by projecting buttons d. and is connected to the switch proper by the rocking member n and the link o. The switch mechanism consists of a member g attached to the link o which is co-axially mounted with the contact arms p, a spring being interposed between these members to ensure a quick make-and-break action. In an alternative arrangement, the removal of the plug opens the switch, the projection h moving along and displacing the lever j during withdrawal.
