Abstract

Cylinders and valve chests, cooling.-A valve cap is made by casting together a member B of good heat-conducting material such as aluminium alloy, and a ring A of harder metal, such as phosphor-bronze. The ring A may have a portion C which prevents contact of the member B with the hot gases; tho member B is preferably finned; and the ring A may be cast on the member B or vice-versa. In an alternative construction, a series of fins of sheet metal, for example, copper, are united by casting around them a portion corresponding to A. Several arrangements of the joint between the members A and B are described, designed to prevent relative rotation as well as axial displacement of the parts.
