Abstract

197,801. Ranson, H. March 29, 1922. Tripod stands.-In a, tripod stand of the kind wherein the legs are held rigid by struts and ties, the means used to put the struts in thrust and the ties in tension simultaneously lock the connections between the upper ends of the legs and the head. The upper end of each leg is fitted with a tapered plug A<5>, Fig. 4, which takes into a socket B' in the head B, and a stud H in the plug works in a radial slot K in a plate K<1>. The struts F are pivoted to a collar E free to slide on a rod C, and when the nut D is screwed upwardly, the struts tend to force the legs out. wardly, the ties G are tensioned, and the plugs A<5> are forced firmly into the sockets B<1>. The pins H are provided with springs J, so that when the legs are closed, the plugs A<5> may be partly withdrawn from their sockets. The lower mem. ber A<1> of each leg A has parts A<3>, Fig. 2, cut away, and the parts A<3> are connected by a slot A<4>, so that the joint action of the struts and ties locks the two parts of the legs when the stand is set up.
