Abstract

Locomotive - type boilers; fire-boxes; joints; stays.-In a locomotive-type steam generator the fire-box sides a and seamless crown b, constructed from one piece of metal, are welded to the end plates c, d. Preferably the fire-box is welded to a foundation ring e which projects inwardly to carry the fire-bars, and is then riveted to the boiler shell. The crown b is corrugated, as shown, so as not to distort the prepared edges of the plate before welding. Stiffeners for the shell are provided which consist of plates f, welded together and to the shell. An external smoke-box abutment h is also welded to the shell. In the case of a portable boiler, seatings and other mountings may be provided for the accommodation of a prime mover and other accessories.
