Abstract

196,373. Steele, G. A. Jan. 21, 1922. Addition to 181,547. Tripod and like stands.-The portable stand for vices &c. as described in the parent Specification, is constructed with an auxiliary front support or leg situated between the two front legs and pivotally connected to the head of the stand, anchoring platforms being pivoted to each of these three legs so that the stand can be maintained in position by the feet of the operator. The two front legs 10 have brackets 9 attached to their top ends which are pivoted to the head 1 at 9<a> and a single rear leg 12 is employed having a bracket 11 pivoted to the head at 11<a>. A tray 14 pivoted to a cross stay extending between the legs 10 rests on a bracket 15 on the rear leg to hold the legs in extended position. A vice 6 of the kind described in the parent Specification is shown screwed to an extension 5 of the head 1. The auxiliary leg 19 slides in a lug 18 pivoted to a downwardly extending part 17 of the head 1 but in the working position is prevented from so doing by the part 17 or by a pin and slot arrangement at its end. The extent to which the leg 12 can be moved is limited by its top end engaging the rear end 2 of the head of the stand. Anchoring platforms 16 and 20 are attached to the legs 10 and leg 19 respectively.
