Abstract

196,147. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Feb. 28, 1922. Thermal switches &c.-A thermal circuit controller comprises two thermostatic strips 10, 11 connected in series through the contacts 13, 14, one strip 11 taking the forming of a grid or the like so as to offer considerable resistance to the current, and both strips being made of similar material so as to move in unison under changes of room temperature. If the current becomes excessive the strip 11 becomes heated, and bends away from the strip 10 so that the contacts 13, 14 separate. The Figure shows the controller inserted in the circuit to a motor 17 which has a starting winding 18 and a running winding 19, the winding 19 being automatically cut out of circuit by a centrifugal switch 25 when the motor attains a certain speed. Should the current become excessive contacts 13, 14 separate and a resistance 20 is inserted into the circuit.
