Abstract

9726. Jones, S. G., Wilson, F. E., and Shepherd, W. A. April 20. Centrifugal switches.-The circuit of a fan motor is automatically interrupted at intervals by a centrifugal device B having one sleeve fixed by a screw c to the motor shaft. A loose sleeve D<2> pulls a conducting-disk E away from insulated spring contacts H, J when the speed rises. As the speed falls, an insulating ring G on the disk first touches the contacts and prevents the closure of the circuit until a sufficient retardation has resulted, after which the disk E re-establishes the motor circuit. The contact H is in two parts pivoted together at Z, the outer one being under the control of a spring X so as to permit of its being forced back by the disk, and the inner one mounted on an insulated flat spring I. Thermal switches.-A thermal switch may replace the centrifugal device, an expansible bar D, Fig. 1, cutting out its heating resistance E at intervals by closing contacts B', B<2>.
