Abstract
194,331. Western Electric Co., Ltd., (Western Electric Co., Inc.). Sept. 12, 1921. Reciprocating and oscillating machines.-Comprises a step-by-step rotating device in which the operating magnet is energized at the beginning and maintained energized to the end of each stroke in one direction of a stepping pawl and then de-energized and so maintained throughout the return stroke of the stepping pawl, the necessary circuit interruption being provided by a single make-and-break contact spring which serves also as a holding pawl. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the stepping pawl 2 makes its driving stroke under the action of the spring 10 when the magnet 11 is de-energized, and by means of a lug 6 presses a contact spring 5 into engagement with a similar contact spring 4 which is extended to constitute, a holding pawl in engagement with the driven ratchet wheel 1. By these means the operating magnet is energized to draw down the pawl 2, the circuit at the contacts 5, 4 remaining closed until the pawl engages the next tooth, whereupon the circuit is broken and the pawl 2 rises and drives the wheel. The circuit remains broken until the wheel has completed the one-step movement whereupon the holding pawl engages the next tooth and springs back into engagement with the contact 5. In a modification, the driving stroke is produced when the stepping pawl is attracted.
