Alternating - current motors; windings.-In order to prevent a high speed polyphase induction motor from running at speeds considerably below synchronism, the distributed primary winding is wound with fewer conductors at the outer edges of each phase belt than would be required if the total number of conductors were evenly distributed over the entire periphery. This may be effected by omitting conductors from some of the slots at the outer edge of each coil side, or by arranging the winding so that each coil side subtends a less angle than is necessary for the complete winding to be distributed evenly over the entire periphery, as shown for a two-phase winding I, II. The winding may be a fractional pitch winding.
