Abstract

1,014,365. Induction motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 10, 1963, No. 18658/63. Heading H2A. In a resistance- or capacitance-split-phase induction motor the odd harmonics of the flux due to the main and starting windings are in additive relation to increase the starting torque. This is achieved by the use of concentric windings in which the number of turns per coil in the main windings progressively increases from the innermost to the outermost coil (as is usual) but progressively diminishes in the starting winding. The running characteristic is not affected because the starting winding is disconnected at speed. Aluminium wire may be used for the main winding.
