Abstract

1302451 Winding arrangements for electric motors GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 29 July 1970 36741/70 Heading H2A In an A.C. motor stator the end turns 32 of the distributed main winding do not extend around the full circumference of the end face of the core so as to leave a segment of the end face free of end windings and available for engagement by mounting pads. An induction motor stator for use in a compressor unit includes a two pole distributed main winding accommodated in nine large core slots 16 on either side of the main polar axis 21, 22, and a two-pole auxiliary starting winding accommodated partly in small slots 17, 18 straddling the axis 21, 22 and partly in some of the slots 16 containing the main winding. In the segment of the core embracing the small slots 17 there are no end turns 32 of the main winding and the end turns of the auxiliary winding are kept radially inwardly of the outer periphery of the slots 17, leaving the required exposed area on the end face. The pole axes 43, 44 of the auxiliary winding are offset by less than 90 degrees E from the poles axes 21, 22 of the main windings, and the number of turns per slot of both windings changes from slot to slot.
