Abstract
193,087. Kawakami, K. Oct. 13, 1921. Alloys.-A porous alloy of lead, antimony and mercury for use in electric storage battery electrodes is made by subjecting a heated alloy of the three metals to treatment in a centrifugal separator whereby a eutectic alloy is driven off leaving the remaining alloy in a porous condition. In an example an alloy containing 93 per cent of lead, 6 per cent of antimony, and 1 per cent of mercury, electrically heated to 300‹ C. is used, a eutectic alloy consisting of 13 per cent of lead and 87 per cent of antimony being driven off and the remaining porous alloy consisting of 97.8 per cent of lead, 0.4 per cent of antimony and 1.8 per cent of mercury. The original alloy may be in the form of a plate, rod &c. or it may be cast into a frame or grid of lead or an alloy containing 99 per cent of lead and 1 per cent of mercury.
