Abstract

Sights; ordnance, built-up; muzzle-loading; breech mechanism.-The Specification as open to inspection under Sect 91 (3) (a) comprises a trench mortar having a sighting-tube 28 pivoted to the gun muzzle., the interior of the tube being polished, and the exterior being fitted with front and rear sights 31, 32. The range is varied by varying the angle of elevation shown by a weighted pointer 26 which moves over one of several coloured scales b graduated for charges of varying size which are coloured to correspond with the scales. The bomb c, carrying its own charge, is loaded into the muzzle of the gun and slides down the barrel, at the lower end of which is situated a firing-pin 15 operated through a lever 17 by a spring-controlled weighted rod 19 which is released by turning a handle 21. For cleaning purposes, the barrel 2 is made readily removable from the breech-piece 14 by providing a hooked flange on the barrel which is engaged over four pins on the breech-piece by a simple turning movement. This subject-matter does. not appear in the Specification as accepted.
