Abstract
247,900. Brandt, E. W. Feb. 23, 1925, [Convention date]. Sights; ordnance breech mechanism; sound of discharge, modifying; flash of discharge, concealing. - A trench mortar of the Stokes type provided with a front support d carrying a sighting-device h' adjustable in elevation and azimuth, has a yielding connection between the gun barrel a and the front support, and a light but non-deformable baseplate c<1> to receive the breech end of the gun, the combination serving to prevent the firing reactions from disturbing the sighting apparatus. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also describes with reference to Fig. 3 (Cancelled), firing mechanism having a rotary cam member b<6> engaging the firing pin b<3>. In the position shown, the cam causes the firing pin to protrude for Stokes firing, but. on rotating the cam, the firing pin can be cocked and released for ordinary percussion firing. The muzzle of the gun is provided with a tapered attachment a' for silencing and flash-concealing purposes. The sighting device shown in Fig. 10 (Cancelled) comprises a collimator h<1> adjustable ir. elevation with respect to a base o<4> which is rotatable by a quick and fine gear on a support g<3>. This support can be rotated in the vertical plane by a knob g<5> and is provided with spirit levels for longitudinal and lateral levelling. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
