Abstract

15,677. Bowers, C. Nov. 6. Turning.-A profiling mechanism for producing articles such as the driving bands for shells, guard-rail standards, and handles, employs a templet corresponding exactly to the form to be produced. The templet f, Fig. 7, which may have lines scribed on it to indicate the termination of different sections of the profile, is adjustably mounted on the bottom slide and may be set by a shoulder D. A removable stop 10 serves to set the pointer h by means of the surface E. The pointer is similar in shape to the tool, and sets of roughing and finishing tools, with their corresponding pointers, may be employed. The tool is fed by manipulating the feed-screw handles as limited by the templet. The tool is located by a stud 8, which engages a projection on the holder, and which is ground correspondingly to the tool when re-sharpening, and is clamped by a groove in the side of the holder s by screws 4 which are longer than the screws 3 that clamp a block x in a groove in the front of the holder, so that a key on a screw 4 may pass over the tops of the screws 3. A stop y in the block x engages the side of the holder and locates the front end of the block in line with the side groove. The holder has an index line or pointer C for use in setting relatively to the work. Tool-holders.-A circular-form tool 11, Fig. 7, is secured by a nut 13 and set-screw 14 on a projection of a shank 16 adapted to be clamped in the holder by the screws 3, 4.
